紫禁城的六个主要轴向建筑的布局是非常简单的。前面是在南部的入口，进入面临的主要景点向北。在南北中轴线（轴线），分为两种配合物，外的庭院，三个主厅（太和殿，中和大厅和包河厅），南部和北部的内庭院的另外三个主要建筑物由两个化合物宫殿和一个大厅（县钱清镇宫，交泰宫，坤宁宫宫）。本行政区域内的较大的南外部门和私人宿舍是内蒙古北部部门。二级宫殿建筑布局是这个中心轴两侧。
